How to find more pleasure with intimacy in midlife

2 sets of hands reach for each other

“He said he wasn’t attracted to me anymore.” * Said my friend after 20+ years of marriage, 2 kids, mental health ups and downs, weight gain, and a chronic health diagnosis. She and her husband lost their intimacy in midlife. Will they get it back?

Personally, I want to pull the guy’s hair out, shake him by the shoulders, and give him a stern “seriously, WTF dude” thrashing.

The more zen side of my personality understands relationships change as life changes. And if they don’t change together, emotional and physical intimacy will get lost in the shuffle.

Midlife is full of big changes, which is why this month’s theme on the Savor Food and Body Podcast is intimacy in midlife. How do you rekindle a romantic spark in a long-term committed relationship? How do you find a new spark after a relationship ends in your 40s?

This week on the Savor Food and Body Podcast, I’m talking with Dr. Patti Britton (Ph.D.) a nationally board-certified Clinical Sexologist known as the “Mother of Sex Coaching”.

“Our sexuality is our life force energy.”
~ Dr. Patti

Through her private practice in Los Angeles, CA, and worldwide via Zoom, Dr. Patti specializes in serving the Boomer Generation and sexless couples of all ages, who seek sexual wellness and pleasure.

Here’s what you’ll hear in our conversation:

  • What sex coaching is and how it’s different from counseling and therapy?
  • The issues Dr. Patti works with clinically around sex, body image, and aging for women in midlife.
  • Dr. Patti describes her solutions for what to do when we dry up, sag or droop and slow down.
  • How to cope with body image issues as they relate to low libido and sexual desire.
  • How relationship conflicts related to sex and sexuality later in life often radiate from misplaced expectations.
  • And Dr. Patti shares tips on how women in midlife can find more pleasure in intimacy – physically and emotionally.

If your intimate relationship has lost the passionate spark, stay tuned for 3 more conversations with midlife intimacy experts.
